Craig Mayes is the founding co-pastor of Communitas NYC. Communitas exists to develop followers of Jesus by growing in love for God and others, living in authentic community, and serving open-handedly.
Prior to moving to New York to found Communitas with his wife, Chris, in 2008, Craig served for a combined 18 years as pastor to 2 churches in the Detroit, MI area. His service included a term as teaching Pastor at Kensington Church, which drew 10,000 people in attendance.
Craig holds a Masters in Theology and Ph.D. in Counseling/Psychology. He previously served as a professor of Psychology at a christian college.
Craig and Chris have been married for 26 years and have three children, all of whom are now adults. They are still working through the shock of becoming empty nesters. Craig is in training for the 2012 NYC Marathon - his first, at what will be the age of 57. In addition to running, he loves water sports, sailing, skiing, kayaking... and other things that are exceedingly difficult to do in the heart of a major city. |
